New Updates

As you may have noticed we have introduced adverts on the site.. we think that they are placed in subtle places that do not interfere with the information or design. Furthermore we have added the ‘topbar’ at the top of the site, and as you can see the TTi-bot is crawling a lot of articles every day.. we are continuing to work on optimizating the bot so that the most relevant and interesting articles are selected but we are definitly making progress on this and content is getting better all the time.

We have also changed the structure slightly, previously you would click on an article name and it would take you to the disucussion page. Because we appreciate what our users want, we have changed that so that if you click the article title you go straight to that site and if you want to view other sites, comments etc.. you just click ‘View Comments’

finally we are in talks with a few people about new staff joining the team, particulary new coders so well keep you posted on that news.

Hope you like the changes and much more to come.

TTI

Whats New?

Hi Everyone,

Firstly important to make it clear there is still a lot of activity behind the scenes at tti! We are currently working on bug bashing and bot optimization to ensure the TTi_Bot picks up the best and most up-to-date stories from around the web.

Furthermore we are expanding our discussion and commenting systems to ensure everyone can have their say either on TTi, or through other channels, eg Friendfeed or Twitter and can be aggregated here.

A Little Update

Hi Everyone.. Just wanted to let you know whats going on at TTi at the moment. Having introduced our integration of other social media sites, we are working to refine our system so that it picks the most relevant and unique content. Whilst this is a constant challenge we are making progress with this and aim to deliver fresh and interesting content on TTi!

We recently noticed a major bug where visitors would have been unable to access the linked site unless they copy-pasted the link. We have no idea how long this was around but we are slightly embarrased lol and are working to fix this now.

Twitter and Friendfeed Integration Released

Tonight, Dean released an updated version of the twitter intergration with more relevant comments as well as links from other Social Media services including Friendfeed, Disqus, Google Reader and Delicious. We will continue to update sites included with future updates.

Whilst we have seen some nice progress recently with rising visiter numbers, new layout and blog and host of feature updates we still have further improvements to release.

If anyone is interested in getting involved with our current work – whether it be design, coding or even just getting the word out please let us know.

Another New Design

As you may have noticed we have introduced another new design for the main site and the blog. We decided to redesign(again) for a number of reasons and we feel that we are making progress in terms of UI Design, Usability and feature set and effectivness of the site..

We have been busy at work with the admin – Screenshot coming soon, and have for the first time developed a full Backend management solution which may be made available for use elsewhere.

In addition, the Bot continues to undergo optimization and the Image Bot has particulary improved with very few incorrect images collected. The Backend now allows us to control and manage the bots to ensure during heavy periods information is collected more often than at quieter times. This allows to limit strain on our limited servers but remain at the forefront of News collection at busy times.

In the next few weeks we are hoping to expand our friendfeed intergration and include other social media sites plus include Youtube,Flickr and a host of the other sources.

Stay Tuned!

Progress

Over the last few days we have been fixing a number of bugs and continuing development on a number of new features. Firstly tonight we noticed we had an issue with Time/Date and as a result RSS and Friendfeed/Twitter posts were all showing completely wrong dates – (Posts in 2007).

In addition, we are still working on our new admin and backend to improve control of the TTi Bots and to be able to better allocate their use for more effective crawling.

Finally, we are constantly considering our frontend UI for changes and improvements. We understand that its not perfect at the moment, however we are considering whats best because we are hoping to intergrate Friendfeed and other social networking tools into TTi more effectively. If anyone has an interest in helping us with that please leave us a comment.

Intergrated Twitter Discussion

Following our recent intergration of the Disqus commenting system, tonight we included twitter discussions about each news item. Using the Summize API - Summize describes itself as, “Conversational Search” and searches twitter for conversations in real time – we have been able to include discussions taking place on twitter about a certain news item.

While this addition is fairly basic at the moment, expect continued updates and refinements and we are also currently looking into Friendfeed intergration so that we can include discussion from a variety of sources around the web

.

We’ve Launched!

Tonight, we took TTi out from behind its beta subdomain and released it into the wild. While a number of issues remain including search and gadgets, the site is a joy to use and provides an exciting and informative way to view all the news, from your favourite sources.

During this initial Public Beta Period, we welcome comments and suggestions, from features requests, bugs and general thoughts and remember TTI can be contacted on Twitter, Friendfeed, contact us page, or admin@thethirdeye.org.

Hope you like it!

Disqus Comments!

Today we intergrated Disqus Commenting System into our site. There are a number of reasons for this:

  • Saves us creating a comment system from scratch
  • Increases discussion and comment flexibility – see a users comments from all around the web
  • Easier Comment Management – No WordPress running underneath tti remember!

The system is simple and was very easy to quickly intergrate into tti. We look forward to a buzzing community and discussion taking place across tti and other blogs plus growing channels of friendfeed and twitter.
